Even murders have a right to vote? October 23, 2008

One of the clearest biblical principles in the Bible is that sin has consequences. Apparently in Vermont, that consequence does not include losing the right to vote. Except for the unlucky prison inmates convicted of election fraud, all prisoners on Vermont are given the right to cast a vote in elections, even those convicted of murder.

“Vermont has taken the position the more we can get folks in prison involved in the community in a responsible way, the better their chances of reintroducing them to the civilian world in a responsible way,” Secretary of State Deb Markowitz said.

Biblical worldview Questions

1. What should be our attitude regarding those in prison? How is it supported by the Bible?

2. Should inmates be given the right to vote?

3. Should the focus in prison be more on punishment or more on rehabilitation? Explain.
